About
Acme Bread Company is a pioneer of the Bay Area artisan bread movement, founded in Berkeley in 1980 by Steve and Susan Sullivan. Known for naturally leavened sourdough, levain, ciabatta, baguettes, walnut levain, olive, and rye breads, they supply high-end restaurants (Chez Panisse), grocery stores (Whole Foods, ACME Markets), and operate two retail bakeries in Berkeley and San Francisco’s Ferry Building. Their stone-ground and long-fermented breads define quality, craftsmanship, and flavor in San Francisco’s modern baking landscape.
